Apprentice is on track for bright career at dealership
A proud car dealership apprentice from Greater Manchester has been named as the Apprentice of the Year in a competition nationwide.
An Apprentice at Hatfields Volvo Bury has been crowned the UK’s top 1st Year Service Technician Apprentice 2015, across the entire Volvo UK workforce. Michael Murray, who is based at the Hatfields Volvo Bury, gained the accolade at the manufacturer’s apprenticeship awards.
Michael, who has been at Hatfields since leaving school, beat off stiff competition from other Volvo apprentices throughout the country, scooping the award at a dinner held recently at the Volvo Training Center in Daventry. The accolade follows rigorous assessments at Hatfields Bury and judged during his attendance at the manufacturer’s training days at the Volvo Training Center.
Stuart Baldwin, Service Director of Hatfields, said: “We are thrilled to have trained the best 1st Year Volvo Service Technician Apprentice in the UK Michael is a worthy recipient of this award”. He also adds “His dedication and skill is a real asset for us as a business and he is a fantastic role model for those wishing to set out on a career in the automotive sector. We are all justifiably very proud of him.”
Jamie Menzies, Service Manager at Hatfields Volvo Bury, said ‘’Michael often arrives first and is always willing to help clean and prepare for the day ahead, he not only sees to his own ramp, but assist the workshop in general’’. He continues “Michael has an on-going challenge with our Level 4 Master Technician Chris Moon. Each time Michael returns from Volvo training he has a question that he hopes Chris will be unable to answer! To date Chris hasn’t failed but Michael’s determination to find a question that only he knows the answer too, he is as ambitious as Michael being a Level 4 Master Technician too.
Michael said: “To be awarded Volvo’s 1st Year Apprentice of the Year is fantastic news and it’s still sinking in”. “I’d like to thank Hatfields for providing a great place to work and for my colleagues who have invested so much in me.”
