Volvo unveils the new V60 estate in time for the Geneva Motor Show
Set to rival the BMW 3 Series Touring and the Audi A4 Avant, the new Volvo V60 has been unveiled ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
With increased passenger and luggage space making the V60 the biggest car in its class, this new model will not only be a keen competitor in a class that is currently dominated by Audi and BMW, but is built on the same Scalable Product Architecture as the rest of Volvo’s large model range.
Volvo’s V60 estate size guide
The roomier replacement for the V60 estate prioritises boot volume to satisfy the increased demand that Volvo have had from new families who require extra room to incorporate both their lifestyle and family equipment.
With this in mind, the new V60’s luggage volume has increased to 529 litres to the glass line with the rear seats up, 841 litres to the glass line with seats down and 1364 to the roof with seats down, making it considerably larger in terms of capacity than the outgoing V60, and putting it ahead of not only the Audi A4, and BMW 3-Series, but also another rival in this regard; the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Driving the new Volvo V60 estate
Set to hit the UK roads in September 2018, the new V60 estate is sleeker and smarter in design than its ancestor and offers a choice of two plug-in hybrid powertrain options:
- The T6 Twin Engine AWD petrol plug-in hybrid – generating a combined 340 hp
- T8 Twin Engine AWD petrol plug-in hybrid – delivering 390 hp.
In addition to this, the new model will be available in both the T5 and T6 petrol powertrains and the D3 and D4 diesel engines, suggesting it will quickly become an industry leader in terms of both safety and driver assistance systems.
