Heritage Meets High Voltage: Autocar Praises Jaguar’s New Electric GT
Autocar Highlights How Jaguar’s New Electric GT Captures True “Jaguarness”
Autocar has taken an early look at Jaguar’s upcoming all‑electric four‑door GT — known internally as the X900 — and the verdict is clear: Jaguar has engineered this car to feel unmistakably like one of its classics. Before development even began, the team ran a dedicated “Spirit of Jaguar” programme, pulling heritage models from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust — including early and late E‑Types and iconic XJs — to identify the design cues, driving feel and emotional traits that define the brand.
Autocar explains that because the new GT sits on a completely fresh EV platform, none of the old character could carry over by accident. Instead, engineers intentionally built those sensations into the new car — from the long‑bonnet proportions inspired by the E‑Type to the poised, effortless ride associated with classic XJs. Everything from steering feel to the initial roll‑away has been tuned to deliver that authentic Jaguar personality.
When Autocar experienced the GT alongside the icons that shaped it, the publication said the lineage became obvious. The EV may be all‑new and 1000bhp‑strong, but the way it carries itself, the sense of refinement and the subtle performance cues all echo what made historic Jaguars so memorable.
At Hatfields Jaguar, we are proud to be part of this exciting new era. As Jaguar embraces its electric future, the GT stands as the first glimpse of a bold, confident direction – one that honours the past while shaping the road ahead.
