Jaguar’s New Electric GT Wows in Autocar’s First Drive Review
Autocar Praises Jaguar’s Radical New GT: A Future Classic in the Making
According to Autocar’s first drive review, Jaguar’s upcoming four‑door electric GT — still officially unnamed but known internally as Type 00 — represents a bold new direction while staying true to the brand’s heritage. Autocar reports that Jaguar’s engineers studied classic models from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust to ensure the new EV maintains the character and driving feel that defined past Jaguars.
Tested on a vast frozen lake in Revi, northern Sweden, the prototype impressed Autocar with a blend of luxury ride comfort and dynamic agility, describing it as a car that “rides like an XJ” yet can “drift like an F‑Type.” This dual personality comes from the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a long‑bonnet, low‑slung design with a 3.2m wheelbase, 50:50 weight distribution, and extremely low centre of gravity.
Autocar also highlights the advanced chassis setup: twin‑chamber air springs, double wishbones, rear integral‑link suspension, and Bilstein DT Sky adaptive dampers — all tuned to deliver a modern EV with distinctly Jaguar‑like dynamics. Performance will be formidable, with at least 1,000bhp from a three‑motor setup monitored 1000 times per second for ultra‑precise torque vectoring.
Autocar confirms that the full design will be revealed in late summer, with orders opening in autumn and first customer deliveries expected next spring.
At Hatfields Jaguar, we are proud to be part of this exciting new era. As Jaguar embraces its electric future, the GT stands as the first glimpse of a bold, confident direction – one that honours the past while shaping the road ahead.
